“’Having an independent midwife was like having a trusted friend at my side, who knew what I wanted and needed, all the way through from pregnancy and birth to after our little one was born.”
Did you know…
independent midwives provide continuity of carer — the same trusted midwife throughout pregnancy, birth and beyond. This personalised, relationship-based care can make a profound difference for everyone. Families in England and Wales can choose independent midwifery care. Scottish families currently cannot.
BirthStory Scotland is a new collective of midwives, birth workers and families who aim to bring independent midwives back to Scotland.
We plan to create a social enterprise, Birthstory Scotland, to support birthing people (particularly vulnerable groups) with the many benefits of continuity of carer, and promote choice in maternity care for all – and also to support each other in this vital work.
Do you want to improve maternity choice in Scotland?
Or are you a midwife, or student midwife, interested in finding out more about how independent practice could work for you?
Some exciting possibilities are on the horizon, and we would love to hear from you right now! Please contact us to find out more…
